Absolutist Launches its First Game on YouTube Playables

While YouTube may not be your first destination for games, it has long served the gaming community. Players come for gameplay videos, trailers, reviews, and live streams. However, the idea of letting them also come for gameplay itself had apparently been brewing for quite some time. Short-session HTML5 games seemed like a perfect fit, as users could enjoy a Match-3 puzzle or a game of solitaire while watching a video, and close the app at any moment. Google already had a catalog of lightweight web games from a curated pool of developers thanks to the launch of the GameSnacks platform in February 2020. 

Eventually, in September 2023, YouTube Playables was launched as an experimental feature for select users, with a broader rollout to YouTube Premium subscribers following shortly afterward. However, enabling it was the tricky part: unless you already knew it existed, there was almost no chance of discovering it in your feed. Once YouTube Playables finally became available to all users, expanding its game library was only a matter of time. The previously invite-only platform then opened submissions to developers, who still had to pass a strict and lengthy approval process. And Absolutist is proud to have successfully achieved that.

Our first choice for the platform was Phrasle Master, a word game in which your objective is to decipher a fun quote or a proverb from the available words. It features daily puzzles, few difficulty modes and 4 languages, including French and Spanish. Over thousands of users played the game in the first weekend, and we hope that many more gamers will come to enjoy it.
